EYRE -
Enabling Young Refugee Entrepreneurs

The project EYRE aims to explore the potential of young refugees and asylum seekers aged 18-30, to empower them, to achieve economic independence and further their social integration as successful entrepreneurs.

The Project (English)

Similar to our project TREND, EYRE is about strengthening the competencies of refugees. Refugees in Entrepreneurship is a topic which is increasingly important on the international agenda. It is well known that the successful integration of refugees into our economies and societies is one of the most pressing issues of our times and that employment is often presented as the best route to integration.

The vast majority of refugees and asylum seekers are young people who have what it takes to become successful entrepreneurs. Entrepreneurship is a particularly empowering path for young refugees because it offers financial autonomy, but also community engagement and personal growth.

EYRE shall help refugees to find out whether the path to Entrepreneurship is the right one for them. To this end, employees from care and support institutions will be informed in particular about the skills required for this purpose and how these can be recognised and promoted.

The result of the project is the development, implementation and mainstreaming of an innovative framework, which enable strengthening the integration of young refugee entrepreneurs in the VET system through more joined up action among different actors in the entrepreneurship support ecosystem (Theory of Change Impact Framework - PDF).

Current status: After the project launch and the first digital project meeting, the partner organizations met regularly for digital sessions and continued to work on the project. At the end of 2020, the first intellectual output could be completed, a practical guide that supports organizations in adapting their existing entrepreneurship offers (training courses, seminars) to the target group of young migrants and refugees, thus promoting and enabling the full participation and entrepreneurial development of the target group. The guide is already available for download at https://betterfutures.how/resources/.

Due to the Corona pandemic, the project consortium was again unable to meet physically in 2021 and implemented the intellectual outputs in virtual collaboration.
In November 2021, the training course planned and implemented by KulturLife took place digitally, within the framework of 2 days. Unfortunately, the multiplier events could only be partly conducted in presence and also had to be partly conducted digitally.
Nevertheless, all project results were successfully completed and can be accessed on the project website https://www.betterfutures.how/. The results are available in English, German and French and can be used freely.
The EYRE project ends in February 2022.
