CJ SUPERHEROES - From Readers to Leaders: Empowering Civil Society through Citizen Journalism

Das Projekt

Das CJ SUPERHEROES-Projekt reagiert auf die sich wandelnde Medienlandschaft, in der technologische Fortschritte, wie zum Beispiel Künstliche Intelligenz (KI), die Erstellung und Verbreitung von Informationen grundlegend verändern. Heutzutage kann jede*r Bürger*in mit einem Smartphone und einem Social-Media-Account zur Stimme des Wandels werden: bislang unerzählte Geschichten über die „Held*innen von nebenan“ aufdecken, Gemeinschaften inspirieren und konventionelle Erzählweisen hinterfragen. 

Ohne fundierte Kenntnisse in journalistischer Ethik, Faktenprüfung und Datenschutz besteht jedoch die Gefahr, dass Bürgerjournalist*innen dem öffentlichen Diskurs schaden, Privatsphären verletzen oder sich selbst gefährden. Hier setzt CJ SUPERHEROES an: Das Projekt stattet NGOs und Lehrkräfte aus der Erwachsenenbildung mit notwendigen Fähigkeiten und Ressourcen aus, um verantwortungsvollen und wirkungsvollen Graswurzel-Journalismus zu fördern. 

Das Projekt gliedert sich in fünf Arbeitspakete (WPs), die darauf abzielen, NGOs, Bildungsakteur*innen und Gemeinschaften durch Bürger*innenjournalismus zu stärken:

• WP1 gewährleistet effizientes Projektmanagement
• WP2 entwickelt innovative Bildungsinstrumente – wie Unterrichtspläne und eine gamifizierte „Card Box“ – zur Schulung von Bürgerjournalist*innen
• WP3 testet diese Materialien in Train-the-Trainer-Programmen und passt sie basierend auf Feedback der Teilnehmenden an
• WP4 fördert Kompetenzaufbau durch lokale Workshops und einen internationalen Wettbewerb, der Engagement sichtbar macht und herausragende Graswurzelprojekte auszeichnet

• WP5 verbreitet die Ergebnisse über europäische Info-Veranstaltungen und Online-Seminare, um die Nachhaltigkeit der Tools sicherzustellen

  Gemeinsam tragen die Arbeitspakete dazu bei, aktive Bürgerschaft zu stärken, den öffentlichen Diskurs zu bereichern und die Wirkung zivilgesellschaftlicher Stimmen im digitalen Zeitalter zu erhöhen.
  
  Aktueller Stand: Das Projekt ist am 31.12.2024 gestartet. Am 30. Und 31.01.25 fand unser Kick-off-Meeting mit den Partnern in Kiel statt. Während der beiden Tage haben alle Partner gemeinsam eine solide Grundlage für die Zusammenarbeit geschaffen, die nächsten Schritte und Meilensteine geplant, und zugleich den Grundstein für die Entwicklung unserer innovativer Bildungsformate im Bereich Bürger*innenjournalismus gelegt.

   

The Project (English)

The CJ SUPERHEROES project responds to the evolving landscape of journalism, where technological advancements—especially AI—have transformed how information is created and shared. Nowadays, any citizen armed with a smart phone and a social media account can become a voice of change, capable of uncovering untold stories of the “hero next door”, inspiring communities, and challenging conventional narratives.

However, without proper knowledge of journalistic ethics, fact-checking, and data protection, citizen journalists risk harming public discourse, violating privacy, or even endangering themselves. CJ SUPERHEROES seeks to address these challenges by equipping NGOs and adult educators with the necessary skills and resources to promote responsible and impactful citizen journalism.

The project is structured around five interconnected work packages (WPs), each contributing to its overarching aim of empowering NGOs, adult educators, and communities through citizen journalism.

• WP1 focuses on efficient project management
• WP2 will develop innovative educational tools, including lesson plans and a gamified "Card Box" to equip educators and NGOs with the means to train citizen journalists effectively
• WP3 pilots these tools through training activities for trainers and advanced learners, refining the methodologies based on participant feedback
• WP4 emphasizes skill-building through local workshops and an international competition, fostering engagement and showcasing excellence in grassroots reporting
• WP5 disseminates the project’s results through Europe-wide multiplier events and online seminars, ensuring the adoption and replication of its tools and methodologies across diverse educational and community contexts.

Together the WPs will, in a step-wise manner, promote active citizenship, enrich public discourse, and strengthen the impact of citizens’ voices and civil society.

Current Status: The project started on December 31, 2024.
On January 30 and 31, 2025, we held our Kick-Off Meeting with the partners in Kiel. During these two days, all partners worked together to establish a solid foundation for collaboration, planned the next steps and milestones, and laid the groundwork for the development of our innovative educational materials and tools in the field of citizen journalism.
